How to become an actor from a small town or city

I'm very excited to announce that I am finally finished writing my book, "Acting in Texas: A Step by Step Guide to Getting an Agent & Texas Actor's Directory".  While I was putting together the resource portion of my book, I realized just how lucky I am to live in this wonderful city where theater and film are not only booming but also full of talented and passionate artists helping each other out.  It's not fun being an actor if you have no one to play with.

Sadly, there are some parts in our beautiful state that have limited access to film and theater.  If you live in one of the remote towns or cities don't worry my friends, you can still begin your acting career right there from home and here is how.

Your Community

Look out for community colleges, churches and high schools in your area and towns around your area.  Even if your dream is to work in films, you should sign up to work in theatrical plays.  Don't limit yourself there, attend workshops, seminars,  and classes that these venues put up for actors.  Remember you have this wonderful magical box that connects you to the rest of the world without leaving your home.

Sign up for acting classes online and join groups on Facebook and other websites to learn from like-minded people.  Taking it a step further you can even teach aspiring actors in your area later on when you have more experience!

Links & Resources

Here are a few links of online acting classes that you can take right now to begin your acting career.  Some of these websites offer free classes and some others offer affordable options.

Once you have a resume with stage credits and training credits, you can make your move to Austin, Dallas or Houston to get your agent.  Warning, though, you shouldn't go out looking for agents without reading my book first.
